I made this quilt for my daughter's 4th birthday, Sepember 2006.
I finished the binding the night before her birthday!! She was moving from a toddler bed in a room shared with her 2 younger brothers, to a twin-sized bed in her own room.
The heart pattern is from an older issue of Quiltmaker Magazine. I adapted the block into my own quilt design. The stripe of pink hearts lines up with the edges of her mattress so it's easier for her to make her bed neatly.
Purple is her favorite color, and blue is my favorite - so I included 4 hearts from each of those colors. I used some 'novelty' prints, but it's mostly florals or geometrics - not a true I Spy quilt. I love scrappy quilts, if you can't tell. ;-)
I started to do the borders all with 4-patches, but then decided to use up the HST's left over from the hearts... so each border side has 1 pinwheel block just for fun.
Each of my children has a 'theme' for their annual Christmas ornaments, quilts, and room deco. Marian's 'theme' is hearts.
A friend at church gave me the pink-hearts print that I used for the alternate blocks in the border. My sister-in-law says it's her favorite of the quilts I've made, so that's why I chose this one for my first submission to this site. :-) The quilt was machine-quilted by Callie Noonan, an email friend who also lives in Oklahoma, although I've only met her once, when I picked up this quilt from her! A few of these pictures are from before it was quilted. One funny story about the label (not shown). I machine-embroidered the label a month or so before the quilt was finished. By the time I got the quilt back from Callie, I couldn't find the label. I found it a year later when we moved to a new house!! -- Elizabeth, Oklahoma, USA
