This quilt is called 'My Joy.' These are my favorite colors.
I designed the layout with Carpenter's Wheel blocks and joined them through the cornerstones of the sashing. This was my first try at Y seam construction. The quilt fits my tall Queen bed at 98 inches square.
It took me 7 months to hand quilt the whole thing. I used a wool batting that was lovely to needle! The quilting designs I planned to use changed as I got to the borders. I used thread colors that, on the top side, would blend into the pieced blocks and first border and stand out in the plain blocks and the 2nd and 3rd borders. I love the way it looks on the back. I think that the thread colors help reinforce the effect of the fabric colors showing through onto the white of the background.
Here is a close up of the edge on the front side. I had to make 84 blossoms in the 2nd border. I'm particularly fond of the feathers in the last border. This quilt is going to live on my bed in the winter.
Here is the back side edge.
I entered it into the Clark County Washington Fair (my first ever fair entry) and received a red ribbon from the judges and a 'best hand quilting' award from the Clark County Quilters. This is how it looked hanging there.
