I saw this quilt on the wall of a quilt shop in Eugene, Oregon, last summer while we were on vacation, [sorry, can't remember the quilt shop's name] and thought it was lovely. So, I had to make my own.
The pattern is 'Slideshow', by Atkinson's Designs. Once again, Tammy at Sugartown Quilts did the machine quilting. I back all my quilts with flannelette to give them warmth and to ensure they don't slide off the bed.

This quilt is from a pattern called Urban Chic by Artichoke Collection. I chose to do black borders as I thought it framed the quilt better than pink. It was machine quilted by Tammy at Sugartown Quilts. I think this is my favorite! But, each one that I finally get done is my favorite!

After making quilts for six grandkids last year, it has taken me a while to get back into it. This one is from the pattern called 'Strings of Color' by Carolyn St. Claire. It uses many of the scraps from the grandkid's quilts. It was machine quilted by Tammy at Sugartown Quilts.

This quilt was a fund-raising project for the committee to renovate the old town hall building. The Dresden plates are antiques donated by a local antique shop.
I designed the flower layout because we didn't have enough blocks to make a good size quilt.
The group members hand appliqued the plates onto muslin and then one member pieced the pots and the main portion of the top.
I pieced the chain border from reproduction fabrics and quilted it on the longarm with lots and lots of feathers.

This quilt is my own design. I wanted to use up some reproduction circa 1850s fabrics from my stash, but it hardly made a dent!!
I documented progress on this quilt on my blog. When the blocks went together Eureka! It made a chain!
Fay reads my blog and named it 'Eureka Chain'. This really suits me as I live only an hour from the site of the Eureka Stockade which occurred in the 1850s - the same vintage as the repro fabrics. I used leftover pieces and blocks on the back.

I started this quilt in 2007, for my eldest daughters bed.
It took me 18 months to finish the top, I kept getting distracted by other projects, you know how it is!
Once I finished the top, in true quilting style, it then sat folded up as a UFO for another year till the start of 2009 when I made it my resolution to finish some of those UFO's! So it was sandwiched and quilted within a few weeks! And is now finished!!!!
The finished size is 48 inches by 78 inches. I went through 3 and a half reels of 250 metre cotton thread for the meandering stippling, so about 1,750 metres of thread for the meandering stippling.....
She likes laying on it and playing match the material, first she finds say a strip of orange with spots on it and then trys and finds a matching bit on the quilt somewhere. Kinda like eye spy with colours.
She has slept under it every night since I put it on her bed which makes me feel like putting two thumbs up and going YESSSSSSS! I knew she was excitied at it being made but thought after a few days she'd request her doona cover back but nope!

I made this for my daughter Hannah using a pack of batik strips and adding some pink and purple batiks for the larger pieces. I've machine quilted it in a random stipple with free-hand drawn flowers in each of the pink squares. My first attempt at machining something other than squiggles freehand!

I didn't set out with a design for this quilt, I just started joining strips of fabric together length wise, to make a very long strip. Then I cut the strip into 36 inch lengths, and joined them together side by side. Added borders, and machine quilted., and done!
Made about over 20 years ago, and directions were published in Down Under Quilts in 1993. The instructions were accompanied by a cartoon drawn by another regular contributor, Mary O Roberts, which showed a scene in a quilt exhibition with quilts made from strips of fabric. A sign announced it was a 'Strip Display' and one of three blokes was saying to his mates, 'False advertising if you ask me!'

Rebecca is Josh's little sister - see Jan 16 for Josh's quilt and it's story, including how I came to have left over quarter circles in novelty prints.
So it seemed logical to continue the theme, use the left-overs and have some continuity between the two quilts.
I chose two different colours - purple and yellow - and a different layout for the blocks - square instead of on-point - for this second quilt.
And my quilting had become more ambitious between 2002 and 2004.
This was my 'feathers phase', so Becky's quilting is much more formal with feathered wreaths in the circles and some more feathers in a cross shape for the remaining spaces.
The label follows the same basic layout as Josh's, but I particularly chose a fairy print, and the other print is the border print from Josh's quilt.

I needed to do a quilt for Jayna, 6, next. She is a sweet little girl with a lovely smile. I had a Strawberry Lemonade [by Moda] jelly roll; a simple strippy quilt evolved. I backed all these quilts for the grandkids with flannel. It keeps the quilt cuddly. Again, Myrna Layton did the custom quilting.

Grandson Joey wanted a black quilt. I thought that was a little 'dark' for an 8 year old. I looked through my stash and started gathering the brightest fabrics I could find. A variegated rail fence evolved and of course, only black would do for the borders. It set off the bright colors and hopefully will satisfy a small boy's request for black.

Granddaughter Janelle, 8, has beautiful blue eyes and a sweet disposition. I found a fat quarter bundle that reminded me of her. This simple layout was fun to do. It was custom quilted by Myrna Layton. This quilt won first place in a local fair in the patchwork category.

My granddaughter Kaitlin, 11, had seen a fat quarter bundle in my sewing room and said she wanted a quilt with those fabrics. I made up the pattern as I went. I submitted this quilt to a local fair and won first place in the pieced quilt category. It was custom quilted by Myrna Layton.

I decided to make each of my grandchildren a lap quilt for this Christmas [2008]. This has been a fun project. Spencer, aged 10, wanted an orange quilt. I compromised with blue and orange. It is so bright it hurt my eyes to sew on it! The pattern was in the Fall 2008 issue of Quilts and more and was titled 'In the Meadow'. I saved time by having it custom quilted.

This is a flannel rag quilt. Instead of sewing the pieces with right sides together, I overlapped the pieces in order to have the fringe on both sides.

A few years ago I decided to make an advent quilt for one of DH's sons - since he now had children of his own.
This is my own design - I wanted a Christmas tree, and it had to have 24 pockets for treats.
Eventually I decided on this triangular design, using creams/neutrals for the background, greens for the tree and reds for the pot.
I used these same colours plus gold/yellow, white and black for the machine embroidered numbers in different fonts. The quilting is in the ditch for the tree and free-hand stars surrounded by stippling for the background. I found a gorgeous poinsettia print for the backing.

This quilt was made after I attended a workshop with Noreen Dunn to learn about how the Amish people use colour in their quilts.
A few of the fabrics are not quite Amish in colour, and very few are cotton. I started the quilt in 1987 when the only solid colours widely available in Australia were polyester, but all of these were in the scrap basket.
The back is also pieced in the bar design, another traditional Amish pattern. The quilt was tied with black yarn instead of quilting. The quilt was completed in 1988, the Australian bicentennial year.

My favourite redwork designer is Bronwyn Hayes of Red Brolly, and I have several of her designs in the WIPs pile. This is the first one that I have finished and I think I started it in 2003.
Redwork is a great activity as it has only one colour thread, one needle and normally a variety of stitches in the block. These blocks were made bigger than the original and consequently the quilt was bigger. Some of the quilting is done with the computer and the majority of it is freehand. All the swags are freehand with some ruler work to form the frame work. I am so pleased that it is finished and being used on our bed. The label is still to be put on and this will be put behind the initials down the bottom and then I will quilt the label into the quilt.

The Readers' Digest version: I saw this layout online someplace and replicated it in Electric Quilt. I just liked the easiness and simplicity of the 4-patches, rail fence & plain blocks set on-point. I used more of the velvety flannel leftover from other sewing projects, so this is another kinda/sorta memory quilt in a throw size for my girls. The backing is a pastel pink fleece; no batting was used.
This is my third quilt to be quilted on my Tin Lizzie 18. I did curving vines with leaves and flowers on alternate columns. I used a ruler to do a straight line edge stitch along the setting triangles and a meander between the edge stitching and the binding.
The binding was done as a stripset of the black/pink flannel & brushed broadcloth, yielding a subtle striped binding. Here's the Readers' Digest version: This is a scrappy quilt made from velvety flannel leftover from garments and pillowcases that I made for my daughters at various times. However, the background flannel was bought new so that it would be consistent.
Although I've made LOTS of quilts over the years, I've just begun to quilt them on my Tin Lizzie 18 longarm quilting machine. This was an attempt to do 'My Stars', designed by Hari Walner. It truly was an utter disaster. :-) But, as I am viewing these quilts as 'practice', they are all learning experiences ::ahem::. :-)

This quilt was made in 2004 for my brother, Cam, and his fiance, Nat (Natalie) on the occasion of their combined Engagement and Housewarming in 2003. (Even then I had a backlog!) The new house had an existing colour scheme of blue and light grey, so I collected all my blue/grey fabrics plus a sky blue print for sashing and a white print for stars at the intersections of the sashing.
The quilting is really simple - in the ditch along the sashing lines and then diagonal lines along the points of the stars and continuing across the blue/grey blocks.
The label uses Brother's Rennaissance card for the Machine embroidery, with Cam and Nat's initials and the 'EHW' (for Engagement + House Warming).
I named the quilt 'Starry, starry night' both because of the stars in the sashing and because the blues and greys reminded me of Don McLean's 'Vincent' - Starry, starry night. Paint your palette blue and grey. ...

This was originally a project in Australian Patchwork and Quilting some years ago. I started hand piecing it watching my son at Kanga Cricket but got so bored I resorted to the machine pretty quickly and added a wide border to compensate for its size.

I started this quilt from a stripey scrap given to me by a friend about three years ago. I looked in my fabric scrap stash and found some compatible colors and pieced some triangular squares together, and set it aside. It was on my side shelf for quite a while -then one day I was cruising through a book for ideas and the bear claw pattern hopped out at me, so with this in mind I impovised the 'Baby's Bear Paw' with my few squares. The flying geese border just also occurred to me as I contemplated the angles and colors of the main center, so I was off and running. I had intended to give it to my daughter's friends baby, but both my husband and I liked it, so we kept it and gave her another.

I made this quilt for my son from Nancy Martin's 'A Treasury of Scrap Quilts'. My son is 6'4' so I had to make it a bit longer to cover his toes! It's the largest quilt I've made and quilted with my Janome sewing machine.

'Autumn Leaves' was made for my mother for her 75th birthday.
Autumn colours are 'her' colours, and as she's a very fit 75 (now 78) year old, she's clearly very much still enjoying the autumn of her life.
The quilt blocks are alternating autumn leaves and plain calico (muslin) blocks. Each autumn leaf block uses a different autumn toned fabric.
The plain squares were quilted with feathered wreaths, and then all the background was quilted in an all over cross-hatch. The autumn print borders are freehand machine quilted with trails of leaf shapes.

The star and tree blocks for this quilt were made by members of the Golden Harvest Quilters in 1997 for a lucky draw at their Christmas party, which was held a Corny Point. I made one of the blocks myself, but had to reverse the design because the piece of fabric I was given for the background had a flaw in it. I attached a note the block for the winner of the blocks explaining that it was reversed and why there was a seam in the background of the applique! The pattern came from one of the quilt shop series of books, 'Piecemakers Country Store', by the Piecemakers staff members, published by That Patchwork Place, 1993. The pattern name is 'Can't see the forest for the Christmas Trees', and in 1997 we purchased our first outdoor lights, and put large Christmas tree shapes on the front of the house and the side of the garage, aiming at having our own Christmas tree forest amongst the gum and pine trees which were growing around the house we were living in at the time. The blocks were pieced together late on January 16, 1998. It was too hot to do anything else! The borders were added the next day when it was even hotter. (Seems I do most of my quilt tops when it is too hot to do anything I don't like doing!) I almost followed the pattern exactly, but I used about a dozen each of red and brown fabrics for the sashing instead of one of each, and made the first border slightly wider, and added an extra border. This is the only time I have followed directions so closely for about 10 years!! The plan was to button it or use large utility quilting stitches, otherwise it would join the collection of UFOs on the shelf, and I do want to use this one in my lifetime. It waited until 2004 after we left the house at Kadina with all the trees around it and moved to a house with a water tower to hold a large tree in lights before it was quilted with utility stitches and completed to be included in the Golden Harvest Quilters exhibition in October 2004. It is the ultimate Christmas decoration to have a Christmas quilt on the spare bed.

This is a simple Jewel Box quilt made from blocks left over from a larger project. It is done in cotton quilting fabrics, mostly in orange shades. It is entirely machine pieced and machine quilted. This is a baby quilt for a niece's new arrival.

This quilt was done for my husband's niece's wedding. I had been collecting 1930s prints for quite some time, and when we heard about the wedding (with only about two months' notice) I had to come up with something I could finish in that time. The 30s prints were perfect.
The pattern was from the RJR Fabrics website and is called 'Everything But the Kitchen Sink', named for that particular line of 30s fabrics. I ended up finishing it with only a week to spare, and had to send it out to be machine quilted. I finished the binding the night before the wedding, but it WAS done on time!

I made this wall hanging quilt at a class several years ago at Gail's Patchwork Emporium at Ballarat, Victoria.
It was out of my usual box in regards to patchwork, especially the free hand rotary cutting of the curved pieces and layering of the blocks.
I also used some less than pretty fabrics, but together I think they look great - even the giraffe print fabric. The quilting was very basic - just a few curved lines down through the quilt.

I made this quilt using a pattern from the book New Cuts for New Quilts by Karla Alexander (Trident Crossing is the name of the quilt in the book).
I call it 'Black and Tan With A Little Spice.' I only bought two fabrics and the backing fabric for this quilt so it was a great stash buster.
This quilt got a first place ribbon at the Tulsa State Fair. The thread is Rainbows from Superior Thread and it took me a couple of weeks to decide on the quilting. It's my favorite quilt at the moment.

I first saw this block design soon after I started quilting, but have never seen it made up, probably because it would have been very tedious to do as a hand applique. It was described as "modern" in 1920s and 1930s.
In June 2004 I pieced together 16 background blocks using creamy fabrics from the stash. Fabric beads were added at the Golden Harvest Quilters August Hi-fibre Retreat, then I tackled the machine buttonhole stitch around the beads on 11-12 Sept, machine quilted 13-14 September, and started hand quilting around the beads the next day. The binding was completed on September 27th and the quilt was shown in the Golden Harvest Quilters "All Things Bright and Beautiful" exhibition over the first weekend of October 2004.

This is 'The Shirt Quilt' from The Great Shirt Challenge in my local quilt group. A couple of years ago 12 of us purchased 6 x 100% cotton shirts per person from the opp shop. We washed, dried and ironed them. Then each shirt was cut into 6 pieces. That made 36 pieces of shirt x 12 people = 432 pieces of shirts. The pieces were divided into piles at random. Each participant drew a lucky number to receive a bundle of shirt pieces. The challenge was to make a quilt using as much of possible of the shirt pieces. All fabrics had to be used. I didn't seem to have as much variety as some other participants. I had 4 pieces from one particular shirt, (so I had 2/3 of that shirt) that had to be incorporated into my quilt. We were allowed to add one other fabric for the front, one for the binding and one for the backing. I chose a traditional-looking pattern that would reflect a vintage scrappy look. I wanted my quilt to look almost antique. So, I joined pieces where I had to, and added in some substitution. I didn't win any prizes, but it is keeping my sister warm in bed on cold nights!!

This quilt is made out of my scraps and comes from Australian Patchwork and Quilting magazine. This is the first large quilt I machine quilted on my new Bernina and I am very happy with the way it turned out. I still have a lot of scraps and am thinking of making another one!!!

First let's get the housekeeping out of the way... We have run out of quilts again and this time I have decided to have a restructure of how we deal with that. It used to be that when we ran out of quilts I would post one of mine with a request for more. That works well but it means my show and tell page is full of "more quilts please" posts ;o)
So the solution is... when we run out of quilts, I won't upload any new ones until we get some. You will know when we need new quilts because the feature quilt won't change after 24 hours. Of course you don't have to wait until we run out to submit your quilts - you can do that anytime and I'll add your quilt to the queue to be uploaded in order.
I think I will like doing things this way because I will be able to submit my own quilts and play along with everyone else, rather than having to save them up for slow times.
How 'bout that? I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I made this quilt from a couple of jelly rolls I had in the stash. Handy, because most of the cutting was already done.
The idea and the pattern came from Bonnie at Quiltville. Bonnie has heaps of free patterns and lots of photos on her site - it's well worth a visit.
Bonnie also has a blog which she updates all the time. She even runs mystery quilts and her very first book is due out soon. When I grow up I want to fit as much stitching into a day as Bonnie does!
I quilted it with my own panto called Flower Festival and I must have been feeling creatively limited that day because that's what I called the quilt too.

This is my favourite quilt. I made it out of material I had in my stash. The only material I bought was the binding. The blocks are really simple, 4 1/2' x 2 1/2' joined onto a 4 1/2' x 4 1/2' square then a 6 1/2' x 2 1/2' down the side. Makes a 6 1/2' square, I joined 4 of these together to make a 12 1/2' block. The more random the better for a scrap quilt. [The blue is the curtain it's displayed on]

I really enjoyed sewing this one, must have been the white fabric, just looked so crisp and fresh. Totally impractical for a baby boy, especially the third boy in the family!
The slice and dice blocks ended up being 8 inches square and there is a 2 inch sashing between the blocks, and a 3 inch border around.
I used scraps from my stash and miscalculated how many needed and only ended up with 8. So I made the middle one in a contrasting green. It ended up being 34 inches square.

This is a quilt that I made only a few years ago. It started when a friend gave me a garbage bag full of fabric. It was a wonderful assortment that she had collected over a 6 year period. I set about sorting them out into colours and ranges, and finally decided that I would like to make a quilt out of suffolk puffs.
I began making the puffs - all 900 of them. I used a paper template to cut the circles and then stitched them by hand (not a yo-yo maker in sight). On a good night I could make about 40. It was very relaxing and quiet so I didn't attract any dirty looks from the rest of the family as they watched television (as opposed to machine sewing!).
From there I hand stitched them together in rows of 3 and then blocks of 9, and then stitched the blocks together. Now I wanted to attach it to a background. After much thinking I decided to stretch a backing on my quilt stretching frame. Then down went some light weight wadding, then the background fabric, then finally the suffolk puff quilt. It was pinned into position and then I attached (through the centres) all of the puffs around the outside of the quilt. My first plan was to do this to all 900 but after it took 2½ hours just to do the outside rows it was onto plan B (skip the next 4 rows and do the 6th rows in; then skip 4 and do 11th rows etc til the centre). Once it was finished off with the binding and displayed in the shop my friend (who gave me the fabric) said she wanted it. I told her that she could have it when I die. She was happy with that until I reminded her that as I was only 3 years older than herself and as I planned to live for a long time she would ultimately only own the quilt for a couple of years! So to remind her that she can't have it until I die I purchased this badge and attached it to the quilt.

Inspired by a fellow blogger, I just had to have a go myself. Ummm a few round the wrong way blocks, but they will keep for next time. I love seeing everyones' quilts.

In 2004 the Golden Harvest Quilters presented me with these blocks as a farewell gift, along with some fabric to match, a plant and a photo Album, and made me a Life Member all at the same time. As those who were there on the day I received my blocks should know, I was thrilled, and challenged! Also speechless! I had to think about how I would put them together while I unpacked, and for some time after. The first problem was that here were so many blocks that I would have to make lots of wall hangings. Or a quilt! And if it was to be a quilt, how about queen size for our bed, and leave out the wadding so we would actually use it during summer.
Before the blocks became threadbare from me playing with them, I put the small borders around each one in Jan 2005, and got them together, though still ragged around the edges two days later. The project was left a bit rough around the edges for more thinking time while I planned the border. It came out again in May 2006 and but it was not until the day the Golden Girls celebrated their 20th birthday on Wednesday 13th September 2006 that it became less ragged. Finally the day came, while the Golden Girls were celebrating at the 2006 Christmas Party, I got it all together, sandwiched (with out the filling so we can use it over our summer Christmas), quilted and within days it was completed and on the bed.
It looks absolutely wonderful, and every time Brian wiggles a toe bells ring! (I'm not telling you what is going on when the bells ring for extended periods of time, but we will have to curtail that sort of activity while we have guests!) I am delighted with the results, and it is sort of sad to put it away during the colder months, but what a thrill it is to get it out when the Christmas decorations come out for their annual airing. It is unlikely that I will ever forget the Golden Harvest Quilters anyway, but I have no doubt that the memories will come back every Christmas despite age and old timers disease!

This is for my teenage grandaughter. Her request was for a black & white puffy quilt. I made 20x12 1/2' blocks but split 4 to get the large yin yang in the middle.

This quilt is called Artesan Star and I found it in one of the Fons& Porter's, fell in love with it at once and decided to make this for my eldest daughter.
I discovered I had a lot of the Artesan fabrics used in this quilt in my own stash, and bought some more.
The quilt is made in just a few weeks, it was so easy and the result is stunning, it's a favorite of my daughter.
It's almost 3 years old now and it still takes my breath away.
